I look at the world with a magnifying glass always looking for inspiration and appreciating the small things most people don’t notice like how something so beautiful got that way. That is the way an artist should observe things. My focus as an artist is emphasized by my goal to incorporate art in everyday life including all of my activities such as dance, working at the library, academics and volunteer work. That is why art honor society is a perfect fit for me because we make the world a better place by introducing art as a way to solve problems to people who need the help. Art to me is a way to escape the stress of the real world, and put all of my efforts into art so I don’t have to think about anything else. When I create art, I am not much of a planner. I don’t have the patience, but I like to dive directly into a project. I often use trial and error until I like the outcome, but even more difficult, sometimes I try to use the error and make it beautiful or work with it. That is probably my favorite thing about art. There isn’t a standard so mistakes can be beautiful. Erasers are my best friends while I go through my process because I hate permanent decisions. Photography is probably the newest element of my art because I have used many other mediums for years such as paint and graphite. I like how quickly it can be created and it more easily connects to uncreative minds, so I can influence larger groups of people. I am so grateful to have my dad in my life because he always encourages me to push myself. He hangs up all my work around his office or the house, and makes me want to make more work to show because it’s natural to want to impress others. He would sit there as I would draw him when I was younger too! Robert Stolarik is one of my biggest photography influences because even though I think our work relates very little, it actually makes me want to try new techniques. I love how Stolarik reveals the truth by getting events photographed while they’re in action. I just like the realistic element and how his work can relate to everyone as it shows up in newspapers and magazines. He gets messages across in his work which is one of the most difficult and important elements when creating art.
